This experimental project explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and creative writing. Every day, an AI system autonomously generates one paragraph of a novel, building a complete narrative over the course of 500 days. The result is a unique literary work created through the collaboration of multiple AI agents, each with a specific role in the creative process.
Chapters evolve organically with a minimum length of 25 paragraphs. Once this threshold is reached, the Writer AI can choose to end a chapter when narratively appropriate. The system applies progressive pressure to conclude chapters that grow too long, ensuring a balanced structure while respecting narrative flow.
At the heart of the system is the Story Bible—a comprehensive JSON document that tracks every aspect of the novel: characters and their relationships, locations and their significance, plot threads and their development, timeline of events, and metadata about the novel's progress. This ensures consistency across hundreds of days of generation.
The system uses OpenAI's GPT models for text generation and analysis. Each agent operates independently with specialized prompts and validation logic. Failed generations are automatically retried, and the system maintains detailed logs of all operations for monitoring and debugging.
The entire process runs autonomously via cron jobs, requiring no human intervention beyond initial setup. The generated content is immediately available on this website and can be exported as PDF or EPUB at any time.
